We had an excellent weekend for camping at Richfield Heritage Preserve. We arrived on Friday night and after a short wait for the gate to be opened began unloading the vehicles and taking gear to the campsite. The site was really nice. They had a pavilion to do all the cooking and another pavilion with a fire pit in the center with plenty of picnic tables to sit down and enjoy the fire. There was a short campfire and card playing that evening before heading off to bed.
In the morning we had a hearty breakfast and then went to work on a service project. The service project involved clearing trees and brush away from the fence line. We spent a good portion of the morning on that and finished up to go have lunch. After lunch we took a hike over to the old dining hall where they had a reception for the volunteers that help out at the preserve. There was cake and it was good! When the reception was over we took a second hike around the lake to see more of the camp. Once back at our campsite we split into two groups. One group worked on Environmental Science merit badge and another group worked on earning their Firem’n Chit. There was some free time after working on advancement to play around in the woods for awhile. For dinner we cooked ground beef with taco seasoning to have walking tacos. The rest of the evening was spent relaxing around the campfire, playing cards and other games. Later on we made smores and then it was time to go to sleep. We awoke on Sunday morning and packed up our gear. There was a quick breakfast and then we headed home. Those attending the campout were Anthony A, Joseph B, Lucas B, Malcolm C, JohnLuke E, Mark E, Samuel E, Justin H, Ayden H, Drew K, Nicholas M, Garrett O, Andrew R, Patryk S, Mr. Hill, Mr. Kneblewicz, Mr. Makowski, Mr. Radd.
