For Troop 810 the Parish Picnic actually started the Wednesday before with setting up the canopies. We had around 8-10 scouts and adults show up along with other volunteers from Assumption to put together and set up a dozen canopies.
On Saturday the event kicked off with a procession and mass. During the mass Fr. McGovern gave the homily and honored the troop and pack's 50th anniversary at Assumption. Fr. Justin also had some kind words to say about the work that the scouts and leaders from all the scouting units are involved in at the parish.
During the festival the troop manned a booth to provide information and activities for anyone interested in Scouts BSA. Sean had a tri-fold display on his upcoming Eagle project. In the evening we cleaned up and did a few tasks and then husked all the corn for the chicken and rib dinners being served on Sunday. Once those tasks were done we were able to relax and play some games. One group played Dungeons and Dragons and another played Coup. At 11pm it was time to get some sleep. In the morning everyone was free to leave at 7am. Later that day the Pack had the climbing wall on hand. It was pretty popular with younger members of the parish and kept the leaders busy. The picnic ended later that evening with a few people staying around to clean up and put away tables and chairs.
